Another tantalisingly delicious Epos installation for Andromeda PC-PoS

Andromeda, now famed in the hospitality industry as the Epos software provider of choice, have partnered with PC-PoS UK to provide London’s top taco and burrito establishment with a tailored Epos system.

Tortilla
Tortilla in Islington is one of London’s first taco and burrito eateries. Opened in late 2007 by Brandon Stephens, Tortilla has been hugely popular with the locals.

Brandon arrived in the UK from California in 2003 and quickly discovered that he couldn’t find a decent burrito anywhere in London.

With Tortilla, Brandon’s mission is to bring top quality Mexican food to the UK. Serving quality grilled meats and freshly prepared guacamole and salsas. Canned and frozen food are strictly avoided and organic ingredients are sourced wherever possible.

“We chose the site in Islington because Angel is a busy area that allows us to cater to both lunch and dinner customers.”

Unsurprisingly, the early adopters of burritos in London have been the Americans.

“There are currently tens of thousands of Americans in London so we definitely have a market.”

Brandon comes from a background in e-commerce – which will come in useful when he implements the business’ online ordering facility he has been planning – something Andromeda, his Epos software provider will be able to help with. Andromeda has extensive experience in on-line ordering, having provided solutions for companies such as The Bombay Bicycle Club, Herbie’s Pizza, as well as integrating with major chains’ own web providers, such as Papa John’s and New York Pizza in the Netherlands.

When selecting an Epos solution for Tortilla, Brandon looked at a number of other software companies before deciding on Andromeda,

“Other market software had little or no flexibility. The Andromeda software is easy to structure and very flexible for all terminal users.”

As a volume-based business, throughput of information at Tortilla is very important. The software installed by Andromeda was designed with this in mind. The fast and intuitive interface of the software allows the user to complete an order of six to ten items in approximately ten clicks – meaning smooth, fast transactions and a quicker service turn-around.

Before opening Tortilla, Brandon predicted that there would be a bottleneck at the point of service and so installed two Epos terminals.

“The reality is that the second terminal is not used as often as predicted due to the speed of the Epos system – it is even faster than expected.”

The reporting aspect of the Epos system is important to Brandon, especially when it comes to VAT detailing,

“As some items are VAT chargeable and some aren’t, the system can be set-up to recognise this – enabling detailed and accurate reports that are vital to my business.”

Brandon has been delighted with the service and support he has received from Andromeda,

“Andromeda is always on-call and we have a great relationship with them.”

PC-PoS UK
The Epos hardware installed at Tortilla was supplied by PC-PoS UK. The software runs on two DigiPoS IT1500 semi-integrated systems which sit neatly at the point of service. The DigiPoS IT1500, designed specifically for the hospitality industry, utilises Intel processing power for high-performance demands and can endure the knocks and spills of harsh operating environments.

Brandon is very impressed with the Epos hardware,

“The hardware is reliable so it has been smooth-sailing for us. Each member of staff has picked up the system in five minutes – even those who have not used an Epos system before!”

Each DigiPoS IT1500 is supplied with an Epson TM-T88IV thermal receipt printer,

“The printers are fast and reliable, meaning fast transactions and more enhanced service. The staff find them very easy to use and re-load.”

The future for Tortilla looks bright with plans to open a new eatery in Bankside, London later in 2008 and a possible move into delivery if demand increases.
